Do you snore?

Snoring is defined as a coarse sound made by vibrations of the soft palate and other tissue in the mouth, nose & throat . It is caused by turbulence inside the airway during inspiration. The turbulence is caused by a partial blockage that may be located anywhere from the tip of the nose to the vocal chords. This is because our muscle tone is reduced during sleep and there may be insufficient muscle tone to prevent the airway tissue vibrating .Many people snore and it does not matter if the person is fat or slim.

Every member of my family snores, though not much except my late father snored so much that we knew when he pretended to sleep. I ended up marrying a man who sometimes snored, it was not always a very quiet night.
It is often said that snoring is often the result of overindulgence in some of life's pleasures but this is not quite true.

The following are the causes of snoring

1.Overeating and/or Lack of Exercise
2.Alcohol and Sleeping Pills
3.Smoking
4.Sleeping Position
5.Allergy
6.Nasal Stuffiness
7.Mouth Breather
8.Small or Collapsing Nostrils
9.Tongue Base Snorer
10.Multifactoral Snoring

Health Risks associated With Snoring

Habitual snorers can be at risk for serious health problems, including obstructive sleep apnea. Sleep apnea creates several problems, including:

1.Long interruptions of breathing (more than 10 seconds) during sleep caused by partial or total obstruction or blockage of the airway.
2.Frequent waking from sleep.
3.Light sleeping.
4.Strain on the heart.
5.Poor night's sleep.
